Service Description
Come create with guest artist, Wesley Wong! Freeze casting is a technique that expands on the Freeze and Fuse and Pate de Verre process, that produces glass castings that can be large or small and are highly detailed. Traditional Pate de Verre is a kiln casting technique that uses a one-time plaster mold that gives the project a sugary porous texture. We will be using a technique in which glass powders are packed into silicone or plastic molds, frozen, and fired in the kiln, resulting in pieces that are intricate and shiny. In this class, you will make small and large fused glass elements with lots of color and detail, that can be incorporated into a mosaic, another fused glass project or used for jewelry. We will provide glow pigments that can be added to the powders to make the pieces glow, such as a glow-in-the-dark sugar skull. The larger projects are packed with fiber material that forms a mold resulting in a light weight and hollow piece after it is fired. You will have the opportunity to make several flowers, skulls, butterflies, and other creatures from the molds. You are encouraged to bring your own fondant or candy molds.
